EPI AND FRIENDS is an acclaimed conjunto group led by multi-instrumentalist Epi Martinez Jr.
After having performed with an impressive number of groups throughout his long career—including Los 4 de Valle, Ruben Vela, Los Hermanos Layton, Arturo Nino, Dezeo, Wally Garza Y Sangre Tejana, Elida Y Avante, and Frijoles Romanticos—Epi Jr. formed Epi and Friends alongside Noel Hernandez, Javier Perez, Juan Antonio Tapia, and his mother, Cruz Martinez. The band's work continues to add both to a rich tradition of South Texas conjunto music as well as the Martinez family's musical legacy.
In January 2018, Epi Jr. was inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame for Bajo Sexto; in 2007, he won the Percussionist of the Year Award for the Texas Industry at the Tejano Music Awards; and in 2003, he and his fellow members of Frijoles Romanticos were nominated for a Grammy (Best Tejano Album).
